Shirley BakerWELCOME

I am pleased with this opportunity to welcome you to National Court Reporting Institute and to commend you on your decision to pursue a career that will equip you to face the challenges of the exciting and ever-changing world in which we live.

There are several features of National Court Reporting Institute that makes it unique among educational institutions. We are now able to introduce to you "training online via the internet." There are several reasons why some would prefer this method of training over the traditional type training which would include flexibility of hours, stay-at-home moms, not having to drive long distances in the traffic, among countless others. Whatever your reason is, I believe you will find this to be a very interesting, and pleasant experience.

Also, high on the list of attributes of National Court Reporting Institute is the faculty: experienced educators in addition to being successful, professional people who will be presenting a wide variety of courses in ways that will be both enriching and rewarding for you in this educational experience.

Our experienced and well-trained staff will evaluate your goals and provide assistance in helping you achieve your objectives in the highest spirit of professionalism.

Introducing others to National Court Reporting Institute is a special privilege for me. We promise to make your experience a pleasant one. Student success is what we are all about.

HISTORY

The history of National Court Reporting Institute begins with Shirley Baker. Ms. Baker became a Certified Shorthand Reporter in 1974 and worked as a freelance court reporter for several years. During this time, Ms. Baker began teaching court reporting at the college level in Houston, Texas for approximately 12 years. During this time, the need for a proprietary school for court reporting in Houston was very evident, which prompted the beginning of Shirley Baker Career Institute. The school began with approximately 15 students and rapidly grew to a student body population of over 400 students on a consistent basis. Over the years, Shirley Baker Career Institute graduated a multitude of highly successful and professional court reporters, who, today, are reaping the benefits of the quality education received from Shirley Baker Career Institute.

With the technology that is now available to the busy lifestyle of today, Ms. Baker, with 30 years’ experience in court reporting and education, is now taking court reporting instruction to a new level – the worldwide internet – which enables "anyone" the opportunity to fulfill their court reporting career goals. National Court Reporting Institute makes it possible.

MISSION AND OBJECTIVES

In many cases a high school education is not sufficient to equip a young man or woman with the skills necessary to succeed in a vocation or profession. We believe there is a definite need for career training to prepare adults to successfully meet the challenges of the business world. It is the purpose of National Court Reporting Institute to provide our students with the skills they will need for a productive future and to develop, in students, an understanding of the responsibilities and obligations involved in ethical, professional conduct.

The energies and resources of National Court Reporting Institute are therefore wholly focused on teaching employable skills and building self-confidence in each student.

To fulfill its objectives, National Court Reporting Institute stresses effective teaching in the belief that the greatest strength of an educational institution is its faculty. Accordingly, special attention is given to the selection of faculty members.

This philosophy of career education is implemented through the offering of a certificate in the Court Reporting program. It is the objective of National Court Reporting Institute to:
