OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE CAPTIONER AND JOB SKILLS FOR THE CAPTIONERS

There are several types of CAPTIONING:

ONLINE CAPTIONING The Captioner creates the Captions from material as it is being shown whether the material is "live" such as in a breaking news story or "taped." Online Captioning typically includes one or more of the following:
REALTIME Captioners produce the Captions as the words are spoken.
LIVE DISPLAY Captioners will prepare a script before the show is Captioned and the Captions are sent line by line, usually from a key on the computer keyboard, but could be sent from the Steno machine if the Captioning software supports it.
COMBINATION OF REALTIME AND LIVE DISPLAY An incomplete script of the show is prepared by the Captioner and Captions are sent line by line as the words are spoken; if something is said that is not in the script, the Captioner writes what is said in "realtime" and then resumes sending Live Display Captions when the script again matches what is said.
OFFLINE CAPTIONING Typically the entire script file is created by the Captioner before the show is Captioned. The script is broken into readable parts and placed on the screen to show who is speaking for a time that is long enough for the Caption to be read. After the scripting, positioning, and time coding are finished, the Captions are placed on the broadcast video tape. Most sitcoms, network series, etc., are Captioned in this fashion.

If the student does not graduate within the normal timeframe, the monthly tuition payments (based on the rate of tuition in which the student enrolled) and any other fees, such as course links, etc., will be made by the student until student graduates or until the expiration of the maximum time and a half timeframe.

CaseCATalyst Software used for "Realtime" translation of steno notes (or other translation software capable of producing ASCII or Word Format)	$ 495*

*(According to the prerequisites, the student will already have acquired a shorthand machine and software; therefore, this price is not included in Total cost).
